does anybody else think internet poker players have gotten WAY STRONGER?
ive played at stars since fall 2004 when i first learned how to play. it was definitely weaker back then. it seems today that there is no dead money at the tables… only sharks and very tight novices. i’ve had to quit playing everything but the $5 buy in tourny (just for fun) and started playing at the casinos for my real money. anybody else have this same experience getting “weeded out” by the increasing skill of internet players?

It depends, in some sites players are better, in other worser. I never had problems with too good opponents.
I can’t say that online players have definitely gotten better, but I can say that they are almost always better than the players at S. CA Indian casinos and local card rooms. In live games here, the huge rake will kill you if you play in the wrong game (up to $5 regardless of the pot size if you see a flop). I would prefer to play online because the rake is proportionate to the size of the pot. The problem is that the players are much better online. In the right live games, people play so bad that I find it more profitable to sacrifice a bit (in rake) in order to take advantage of bad player’s mistakes. From my experience online, almost everyone at $2/$4 and above knows what they are doing.
at micro limits, the play is very bad, but other than that play is always going to continue to improve with the tools available to help the education of the common player, and everyone else in the poker world has to keep up otherwise you will fall behind…if you are not improving then you are falling behind, so i think this process gradually happens all the time, but has been greatly accelerated in the last few years because of the boom in the popularity of the game and the increased demand for knowledge on the subject
