Poker is a popular casino card game and it is played at land-based casinos as well as online casinos and online poker rooms.
You are able to find a variety of poker variations online, including some rare variations that are not so easy to find. Here we will look briefly at some of the more common variations of poker on the Internet. If you are new at the game of poker, it is a good idea to choose one variation, learn its rules and practice playing the game until you perfect it.
Texas Hold’em
Texas hold’em is the most popular variation of poker on the Internet. The highest numbers of player traffic are found at the Texas hold’em tables and most online poker tournaments are played in this variation. Texas hold’em is played with two cards that are hidden (hole cards) and five cards that are exposed (community cards). There are three different betting structures in Texas hold’em games, including fixed limit, pot limit and no limit.
Omaha Poker
Omaha is probably the next most popular variation of poker on the Internet. Omaha is becoming more popular making it fairly easy to find Omaha games online, as well as Omaha tournaments. The rules of Omaha are similar to those of Texas hold’em except that there are three community cards and four hole cards. Players must make up their hand using the three community cards and two of the hole cards. There are two variations of Omaha – Omaha hi and Omaha hi-lo. In Omaha hi-lo, the pot is divided between the highest hand and the lowest hand (five cards under eight with no pairs).
Seven Card Stud
Seven card stud is also quite a common variation of poker on the Internet. Players end up with seven cards in their hand, out of which they need to make a five card hand. They are initially dealt two cards face down and one card face up, then three cards face up with a betting round between each, followed by a final card face down. There are two variations of seven card stud – seven card stud hi and seven card stud hi-lo. In seven card stud hi-lo, the pot is divided between the highest hand and the lowest hand (A, 2, 3, 4, 5).
Five Card Stud
Five card stud is similar to seven card stud except that the player is initially dealt one card face down and in the end, they will have four cards face up.
Five Card Draw
Five card draw is played in a similar way to video poker on the Internet. Players are dealt five concealed cards. You can then choose up to three cards to discard and these are replaced. Players must make up their hand with their final five cards.
Razz
Razz is similar to the rules for seven card stud, except that the lowest hand (A, 2, 3, 4, 5) wins the entire pot. Razz is commonly played with fixed betting limits.
